The Village

A Pyrenean corner beyond time

Taús (Tahús) is one of the most secret villages in the Catalan Pyrenees. At 1,470 m altitude in the Valls d'Aguilar, with barely thirty inhabitants, it preserves its stone architecture, traditions and a stunningly beautiful natural environment.

First documented in 1094 in the will of Ramon Guillem de Taús, throughout the Middle Ages it was the head of an important lordship including Guàrdia d'Ares, Els Castells, Saüquet and Saüquedell.

"Taús was the obligatory passage for shepherds and merchants between the Urgell plain and the Pyrenees, and between Gerri de la Sal and Organyà."

Today, Taús is part of the municipality of Les Valls d'Aguilar and is the gateway to the Boumort National Game Reserve — one of Catalonia's least urbanised territories and a refuge for bearded vulture, black vulture, red deer and golden eagle.
